Palacio Real de Madrid

My days are pretty busy from here on out. I can’t believe I only have 11 more days in Spain. This time has just flown by. Today I went to the Palacio Real (Royal Palace). I fell in love with this building, for lack of a better way to put it, when I was here 12 years ago. It is so huge that it is impossible to get it all in, in a picture. The tour inside is kind of limited but you get an idea of what it was like to live like a king. It was build by Felipe V (don’t worry I never remember their names either) in 1738, after a fire burned the original. And while this is considered the official residence of the royal family, they don’t actually live here anymore. Alfonso XIII was the last king to dwell here; he left in 1931 with the election of the first republic of Spain. The palace has the royal pharmacy and a royal armory. The armory is a gallery of armor worn by Carlos V, Felipe II and Felipe III. Sadly you aren’t supposed to take pictures (but I was sneaky).
